Ankle & Foot Conditions We Treat in Utah

Foot and ankle problems travel. They change your gait, load your knees differently, shift stress up to your hips and lower back. At AMIT Clinics, we treat these conditions as part of the full kinetic chain — because the foot rarely stays a foot problem for long.

Using the Advanced Muscle Integration Technique (AMIT), we restore proper muscle activation through the foot, ankle, and lower leg — so the structures that take your full body weight actually have the support they need.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain we see — especially in runners, hikers, and people on their feet all day. It involves inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue running from the heel bone to the toes.

Most treatments target the fascia directly, but AMIT evaluates the intrinsic foot muscles, the calf complex, and the hip stabilizers to find what’s actually overloading it. That’s why we see improvement in cases that haven’t responded to orthotics, stretching, or cortisone injections.

Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles tendinitis is inflammation and degeneration of the Achilles tendon — the largest tendon in the body, connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. It’s common in runners and jumping athletes, and it can progress to a full rupture if the load on the tendon isn’t addressed.

AMIT care looks at the calf, peroneal, and hip muscles to find where the tendon is being overloaded with each stride, and restores their function to take that stress off.

Ankle Sprain

Ankle Sprain

Ankle Sprain

Ankle sprains are extremely common — and extremely undertreated. The ligament heals, but if peroneal muscle activation isn’t fully restored, the ankle stays unstable. That’s how one sprain becomes a pattern of repeat sprains.

AMIT care after an ankle sprain restores full neuromuscular control of the ankle stabilizers, which is the part that rest alone doesn’t cover.

Schedule a Foot or Ankle Evaluation at AMIT Clinics in Utah

If you’re dealing with heel pain, ankle instability, or Achilles problems, schedule your initial exam. No referral needed. We’ll do a full lower extremity evaluation before recommending any treatment.

Why Foot & Ankle Care at AMIT Clinics Is Different

Standard foot and ankle treatment — rest, orthotics, stretching, anti-inflammatories — addresses comfort. It doesn’t always address why the condition developed.

At AMIT Clinics, we evaluate the entire lower extremity — foot, ankle, shin, knee, hip — to find where muscle inhibition is creating abnormal load on the structures below. That’s why patients who’ve tried conventional treatment without results often see real improvement with AMIT care.

Fixing foot and ankle dysfunction also tends to improve things higher up — knee pain, IT band issues, lower back strain. The foot is where every step starts. When it’s not working right, everything above it eventually feels it.

A lot of our spinal patients have already tried standard adjustments, physical therapy, or pain management. What they haven’t had is someone look at which muscles stopped doing their job — and why the spine is compensating in the first place. That’s what AMIT does differently.

Dr. Craig Buhler, D.C. developed the AMIT Method over more than 45 years of clinical practice. He served as team chiropractor for the Utah Jazz — work that required real results with athletes who couldn’t afford prolonged, unresolved injuries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can chiropractic care treat plantar fasciitis in Utah?

Yes. Chiropractic care using the AMIT Method treats plantar fasciitis by identifying and correcting the muscle inhibition patterns in the foot, calf, and hip that cause abnormal strain on the plantar fascia. Many Utah patients who haven't found relief through orthotics or cortisone injections improve significantly with AMIT care.

How does AMIT address Achilles tendinitis differently?

AMIT addresses Achilles tendinitis by evaluating the full lower extremity chain — not just the tendon. By identifying inhibited calf, peroneal, and hip muscles that overload the Achilles with each step, AMIT restores balanced function and reduces the mechanical stress causing tendon degeneration.

Is ankle sprain treatment covered at all AMIT Clinics Utah locations?

Yes, ankle sprain evaluation and treatment is available at all AMIT Clinics Utah locations. Our chiropractors assess the structural and neuromuscular integrity of the ankle after injury to ensure complete recovery and prevent chronic instability.

Can foot and ankle problems cause knee or hip pain?

Yes. Dysfunction at the foot changes how force travels up the leg, contributing to knee, hip, and even lower back problems. At AMIT Clinics, we evaluate the full kinetic chain and address foot and ankle dysfunction as part of whole-body care — which is why resolving foot conditions often improves pain in structures higher up.
